Hohenzollern Dynasty Posted by Veronica on December 21, 2008 The Royal House of Hohenzollern has its origins in Germany, especially between the Counts of Swabia, who ruled around the eleventh and twelfth centuries. The name of the reigning house comes from the word 'Zollern,' which was the name of one of the family castle in Sigmaringen, in southwestern Germany. Frederick III of Nuremberg took over the territory in the twelfth century, extending the possessions of the Hohenzollern. At death, divided his possessions between his two sons, giving rise to the Hohenzollern in Swabia and Franconia. Sofia Magdalena of Denmark, Queen of Sweden
Sofia Magdalena of Denmark (Copenhagen, Denmark, July 3 1746 - Stockholm, Sweden, August 21 1813). Queen consort of Sweden, wife of Gustav III. Daughter of King Frederick V of Denmark and Louise of the United Kingdom.
Since the age of four, Magdalena Sofia undertook Gustavo with Crown Prince of Sweden, in a pact of friendship between Sweden and Denmark. The compromise was the work of the negotiations of the party hats, dominant in the Swedish parliament. The kings of Sweden, Prince's parents opposed the marriage due in part to the enmity that the family of Adolf Fredrik of Sweden had to the House of Oldenburg, reigning in Denmark. However, the weakness of the Swedish monarchy of that time made it impossible for the annulment of commitment, especially when the prince gave his permission in 1776.
The wedding was held at the castle Christianborg in Copenhagen on 1 October 1766, and later in Stockholm on November 4 of that year.
The marriage was not happy, in part to the incompatibility of characters, but also due to the intrusion of Queen Luisa Ulrica. While Gustavo took intense political activity, Sofia Magdalena was withdrawn, shy and serious, showed interest in culture, art and literature of the time and never get used to the court of Stockholm. The relationship of marriage was rather cold and distant.
Her husband came to the throne in 1771 and was crowned Queen Sofia Magdalena on May 29 1772.
Beginning in 1775, Count Adolf Fredrik Munck af Fulkila, friend of the royal couple, apparently with a view to the Kings. Born in such circumstances the Crown Prince Gustav Adolf the 1 November 1778 and in 1772 Carlos Gustavo. Marriage then was the dam scandal, because there were rumors allegedly awakened by the queen-mother Luisa Ulrica to suggest that the principles were in fact children of Munck. For the country is spreading the rumor that the king was homosexual, hence their alleged aversion towards his wife.
After the death of Carlos Gustavo in 1783, the marriage is definitely leaving. Widowed in 1792 after the assassination of Gustav III, Sofia Magdalena was dedicated to a life of retreat and tranquility. I participate in some political activities under the reign of his son Gustavo Adolfo IV. In 1809 served as a witness to the abdication of Gustavo Adolfo. During the reign of his brother Charles XIII, was to retreat Ulriksdal Palace, near Stockholm, where she died on August 28 1813.
