Nuclear medicine DICOM

Nuclear medicine DICOM image format DICOM DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine) is the globally recognized standard for exchanging medical images, designed for handling, storage, printing and transmission of medical images. Includes defining a file format and a network communication protocol. The communication protocol is an application protocol that uses TCP / IP to communicate between systems. DICOM files can be exchanged between two entities that are capable of receiving images and patient data in DICOM format. DICOM enables the integration of scanners, servers, workstations, printers and network hardware from multiple vendors within a storage system and image communication. The different devices, servers and workstations have a DICOM Conformance Statement (conformance statements) which clearly state the DICOM classes they support.DICOM has been widely adopted by hospitals and is making inroads in smaller applications like dentists’ offices and doctors.
